Here's a question most investors can't answer off the top of their head: if you own a world ETF, an S&P 500 ETF and a few shares of Apple directly, how much Apple do you actually own?
It's more than you think. Apple sits inside both funds, so your real exposure is the sum of all three. Multiply that by every holding in every fund, and your portfolio quickly turns into something you can no longer see clearly.
That's why we built Portfolio X-Ray.
ETFs are now part of Nordlight
You can now search, open and track ETFs just like stocks. Every ETF page shows what you need before you buy: the fund's ongoing costs, its top holdings, and how it splits across countries and sectors. Add ETFs to your portfolio and watchlist next to your individual shares.
Portfolio X-Ray: see what you really own
X-Ray opens up every fund in your portfolio and adds its holdings to the shares you hold directly. Then it shows you the parts that are easy to miss:
- Hidden overlap. When the same company shows up through several funds and your own shares, X-Ray names it and splits your exposure into "held directly" and "held through ETFs".
- How diversified you really are. You might hold 1,500 companies on paper, but if a handful dominate, you're far less spread out than that. X-Ray shows both the number of companies and the effective number.
- Concentration. If one sector takes a large share of your money, you'll see it straight away.
- Overlap between your ETFs. Two funds that look different can share much of their contents. X-Ray measures how much.
- Where your money sits. By country, sector and currency, compared with the MSCI ACWI, the S&P 500 or the STOXX Europe 600, whichever fits your benchmark.
- What you pay. The ongoing costs of every fund you hold, in one place.
- What-if. Test a change before you make it: add or remove a position and see how the picture shifts. The simulator starts empty and never suggests a trade. You decide what to try.
X-Ray describes your portfolio. It doesn't tell you what to do with it. That part stays yours.
The Screener: your own filters, saved
Market Discovery now works as a full screener across stocks and ETFs. Pick a region and a horizon, filter by sector, company size and tradeability, then save the screens you use most so they're one click away next time. A momentum-in-Europe screen, a list of quiet large caps, your own ETF shortlist: build it once and come back to it every week.
Why we built it
The best research tools don't hand you an answer. They make your own thinking sharper. X-Ray and the Screener are built in that spirit: they show you what's really there, so you make your decisions with your eyes open.
Log in and run X-Ray on your own portfolio. Most people find at least one surprise.
